The Chicago to Mackinac race got underway yesterday, with the bigger boys starting today.  It is going to be sporty! Pictured left are some menacing-looking clouds forming to the south, courtesy of Brian Janney.

It should be a nice downwind start. Then sometime between sunset and sunrise shit hits the fan, and we learned a new weather term MCS.

A Mesoscale Convective System is a complex of thunderstorms that becomes organized on a scale larger than the individual thunderstorms and normally persists for several hours or more.

They’ll see somewhere between 25-35 knots as the storms cross the lake!
