The passing of Luiz E. Kahl has hit the sailing world hard. When we lose one of our own we all feel the sting and count our blessings to have fostered these relationships. He was a great friend who I had the good fortune to meet forever ago. Covering and managing events for the past 20+ years we shared many stories, laughs, cocktails, airport rides and hotel rooms. He was always smiling and always there to help out. Late night panic formatting questions or problems with registration, he was always on the other end of the line and will be forever missed.
On a perhaps larger but less personal note, one of his legacies is how he completely changed the game on how yacht racing events were managed, scored and promoted in the US, the Caribbean and the world. We have all used the Yacht Scoring platform he created and can probably all agree it was his legacy and it’s crucial that we ensure that it continues to honor him today and well into the future. I am positive I am not the only one who feels this way but, I for one would be honored to help carry the torch and keep the legacy alive. If anyone knows how we can do this for Luiz. Reach out to me.
In these dark times we can reflect on all the good memories and grieve in our own ways. Cheers to you my friend.
Sail on brother,
