heading back

Our friend Ryan Finn had a setback today in his quest to sail his proa from New York to San Francisco…

“The starboard tack fwd part of the pod blew up today. Tons of water inside. I did a quick fix with wood screws, spare panel, some broken pieces and gfl ex. Its rough and upwind to get back to safety so I’m heading upwind on port to get enough distance to sail on starboard slowly with only a storm jib, so the damaged part isn’t taking direct hits at speed. That means sailing on a reach though. This happened just as I was entertaining the Gulf stream.”
Ryan is safe and not in any immediate danger, but he is going to have some rough hours in front of him as he heads upwind back to shore. His FB Page is here.
