The arrival of the 16m (52ft) sailing yacht Anita in New Zealand’s Bay of Islands with a three-man German crew on board without prior permission in respect of the Covid-19 entry rules, has resulted in the trio being deported by immigration authorities.
Under the current Covid-19 pandemic rules, yachts are refused entry unless they are coming for a refit or repairs or humanitarian emergency reasons. The ban on entry by both New Zealand and Australia as the number of Covid-19 cases increased in both countries caught some 300 yachts in the South Pacific region with the cyclone season coming.
