The South Pacific Fiji Islands have received more than 100 applications for yachts and superyachts wanting to visit over the coming week following the implementation earlier this month of the Blue Lane initiative to introduce special rules to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.
The applications have been received through Port Denarau Marina, the main entry point for yachts visiting Fiji under the Blue Lane programme. In a statement the Fiji government indicated that the response was positive but that the opening up of borders would continue to be closely monitored.
On social media, the government said: “The opening of borders to tourists and yachts are under strict conditions where approval is not automatic and each application will be specifically assessed by border agencies. Port Denarau Marina will begin the pilot programme as Fiji enters the first stage of tourism reopening in the country. We are here to ensure that no Fijian is left behind due to Covid-19.”
