Eyewitnesses at the Bay Waveland Yacht Club in Bay St Louis, Mississippi were under the cover of the Club when they heard the crack of lightning, and then turned around to see the sparks. Make no mistake about it, carbon fiber is a good conductor of electricity: the lightning struck the mast, blowing out the base at the mast step, and arcing to completely blow-out the bowsprit of one of 2 of the Club’s few year old Viper 640s. The hoist was also fried, blowing out the plastic switch box.

Of course, the lightning did not strike any of the Club’s 60 year old Flying Scots in their lift slings.  A Viper Snake Bit and Born Under A Bad Sign! – Anarchist Mark.
