Today, to commemorate World Oceans Day, SAP and ocean advocate eXXpedition voyage founder Emily Penn, announced the launch of the SHiFT Platform.
Emily Penn has spent the last eight years leading an all-female expedition voyage to research the causes of and solutions to ocean plastic pollution. While there’s no silver bullet to solve the problem, there are many effective land-based solutions to reduce the flow of plastic into the ocean as well as thousands upon thousands of people who want to contribute. The issue for Emily has been how to mobilize like-minded individuals and provide them with tangible ways to help protect the ocean.
So, Emily partnered with SAP to develop a user-friendly, custom-built digital platform to help everyday people, advocates and experts find their role and best fit solutions to better solve ocean plastic pollution from sea to source.
Inspired by a method developed by Emily, the platform allows users to navigate through hundreds of solutions to find the one that’s right for them by determining the “shift” they want to make to protect plastic pollution in the ocean. From start to finish, users can generate solutions in under a minute. Each solution includes facts to help users better understand the problem itself, as well as the benefits and challenges of implementing those solutions and the impact they can make in doing so.
