As of April 3rd, 2020, “Boating for recreational purposes, watersports, or swimming are prohibited on or in public waterways and beaches.” We request officials from the County of San Diego and the Port of San Diego take action to re-open San Diego for recreational boating immediately.
Recreational boaters of San Diego agree the fight on Corona Virus is a worthy one but we can not see the benefit of maintaining the closure of public waterways as a tool in that fight. While maintaining social distancing and wearing protective equipment, boating is among the safest activities available to the public. Hundreds of people can be observed walking along Harbor Island, Shelter Island, and the Embarcadero on a daily basis, yet boating remains closed.
