that’s some dog

Thought you might like this video of our 1989 Elliott 10.5m Motorboat II in the latest edition of the Coastal classic- a 125nm dash up the coast with 175 entries.

The boat was on rails 3 sail reaching with FRO, Staysail and double reefed main, she was a wet ride but we punched we above our weight getting the double line and handicap win in division 2 and finishing 3rd overall on PHRF. With the forecast there was always going to be a few Elliott boats featuring in the results!

Who would have thought a little old 1980s wooden racer/cruiser could be so much fun and be keeping up with all the modern carbon 35-40fters.

Check the results and see for yourself! Look down the list and see some pretty quick boats finishing behind us…

Another good result in the 320nm white island race and we secured the blue water trophy for the offshore sailing season.

Obviously the boat has undergone some serious modifications over the 30 years she has been floating around but its testament to how good some of these old Kiwi designs were. We gave the boat a full refit before the around New Zealand 2 handed race earlier this year including pimping it out with all the best gear possible- KZ race Furlers, Fineline sheets and halyards all spliced by the designers nephew Brett Elliott at Focus marine, a Fusion Sound system that’s simply off the Richter Scale, Hella Lighting throughout the boat and a new set of pimping Evolution EM2 carbon membrane sails. The old bus is fully pimped out!

Now the boat is getting turned into family cruising mode for the summer holiday season before the co-owner Damon and I take on the 2 handed round North Island race in February next year.

It turns out you can teach an old dog some new tricks.

Cheers,
