Extraordinary weather conditions over the South Atlantic provoked an overthrow in the rankings yesterday. The four Ultime Trimarans were separated by 80nm only this morning UTC, practically a restart of the race ! —– A powerful depression arriving from the continent South of Rio de Janeiro with winds above 40kn prompted the leading Sodebo to head North for safety reasons, and the other teams – including Macif back in the race after the repair stop – remained North of the low pressure system as well. —– Edmond de Rothschild of Franck Cammas/Charles Caudrelier FRA reclaimed the lead 18nm ahead of Sodebo (Thomas Coville/Jean-Luc Nélias FRA). Another 4nm behind followed Macif (François Gabart/Gwenolé Gahinet FRA). —– The race tracker, the news and the videos.
