Excellent performance of the US Sailing Team winning Gold in the Lasers Standard with Christopher Barnard (Newport Harbour YC) and twice Bronze with Erika Reineke (Lauderdale YC in the Lasers Radial and Pedro Pascal Suitt USA in the RS:X Windsurfers.u00b6u00b6The USA Laser sailors defended their 1st and 5th places successfully in the Saturday Medal Races. Finishing 6th was good enough for Christopher Barnard (Newport Harbour YC) to stay on the sensational first position in the Lasers Standard. Charlie Buckingham (Newport Harbour YC), rank 5 in the last race, remained on rank 5 with an 8-point backlog on Bronze.u00b6 Erika Reineke (Lauderdale YC) controlled her immediate opponent Tuula Tenkanen FIN, finishing on the ranks 6 and 7, but it was the Olympic Champion Marit Bouwmeester NED winning the race who jumped on rank 2 overall, leaving Reineke on 3rd. Paige Railey (St-Francis YC) finished on 4th and moved one up on the 6th place overall.u00b6 Unexpected was the excellent 2nd race rank of Pedro Pascal Suitt USA in the RS:X men windsurfers who brought him up as 3rd on the podium.u00b6u00b6The Medal Race day looked set to require at best a wait, at worst u0085well, have racing cancelled. Winds were over 25kts, gusting nearly to 30kts, as well as big seas with breaking waves at the entrance to the Arenal Marina provoked numerous postponements. Finally, the Medal Races could be sailed in the traditional boats, while the not-so-sea-worthy high-performance classes – 49ers and Nacras – were kept ashore, and the rankings after the Final Series became firm.u00b6u00b6Check out the results of ALL North American participants (CAN, MEX, PUR, USA) here.u00b6u00b6All ranking lists and the official daily news.
