The Maxi Banque Populaire IX capsized at around 12:00 (French time) as it sailed 340 miles to the northeast of the Azores. Wind conditions were 30/35 knots with 5 meters from sea.
The ship appears to have capsized following the breakdown of her port float.
Armel Le ClĂ©ac’h have triggered his distress beacon and contact their technical team on the ground. CROSS Gris Nez has supported relief organization, in coordination with the Race Direction and the Team Banque Populaire. The skipper is safe safe inside the boat.
