let the games begin

If you find yourself in Southern California this month and more specifically down in the San Diego area, and you want up-close racing, your in luck! The Radio Control Club called the San Diego Argonauts will be hosting National Championships for no less than 9 different RC Sailing Classes all month long down at the Mission Bay Model Yacht Pond. This years event is titled the 2018 Bob Debow Memorial Regatta.
It is held every three years and being the entire month of August, there is no regatta like this anywhere else in country. Every weekend this month and some Classes racing during the week, you are sure to catch some exciting racing. Check the schedule at the following this link….
These National Championships are all yearly events for the most part and most of the competitors travel all over the country racing in Regional Championships to help prepare for these competitions. Watching these races up close as a spectator, you will soon see that these racers are as serious as any mainstream Yacht Club racer. This is why Yacht Clubs all over the country are now embracing this type of Fleet activity for their own clubs buy purchasing fleets of these one-design RC boats for their serious racers and that just need more after a day on the water racing their big boats.
The San Diego Argonauts are a part of a sanctioned club designation of American Model Yachting Association (AMYA). The AMYA is the National Governing Body for the hobby of Radio Control Sailing/Racing. The AMYA is also members of US SAILING (USSA), the International Radio Sailing (IRSA)Association which are also governed under the World Sailing (WS) umbrella also.
So again if you find yourself in San Diego this month and need a fix of watching some tight racing, check out the pond. And for more info of Radio Control Sailing/Racing/Building/Club locations, check out the RC Sailboat banner on this great newsletter, or go by the pond and just grab a brochure from the local Club!!!
….Good Winds!
