22 hours

A Norwegian Cruise Line crew member who went overboard near Cuba Saturday was found 22 hours later by a Carnival Cruise Line ship. “This is nothing short of miraculous,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Kudos to the Carnival Glory team for this amazing effort to rescue a fellow seafarer.”
Around 3:20 Saturday, the Norwegian Getaway was 28 miles northwest of Pinar del Rio when the ship told the U.S. Coast Guard that a 33-year-old crew member had been seen going overboard. An HC-144 Ocean Sentry plane out of Miami began searching about 10 minutes later, the Coast Guard said.
The Getaway crew member was found alive around 1 p.m. Sunday 21 miles north of Cuba and in stable condition by the Carnival Glory, which left Miami Saturday. A Glory hotel steward saw a person in the water.
