Lighter, faster and even better looking than the previous generation, the new Ker46+’s optimized hull form ensures excellent performance across a range of conditions, while still accommodating a practical offshore racing interior with decent headroom and a full set of usable bunks.
It is the product of surgical build methods from Mark Evans’ team at McConaghy and computational wizardry from Ker Yacht Design. Reams of RANS CFD data were crunched by the Orwellian server farm and leveraged through Neural Networks. World class sailors were involved in the final design selections and input from the racing teams plays an important role in the continuous evolution of this semi custom design.
The foredeck sheer has the now ubiquitous chamfer and reverse bow that any self respecting bowman wouldn’t be seen without in 2019.
The renowned McConaghy attention to detail had been applied throughout, with cutting edge science and build techniques using pre-preg carbon and carefully selected foams. The keel and mast support structures are built in the autoclave on machined aluminium moulds for reliability and microscopic accuracy.
Years of accumulated design and construction geekery, thought and passion are revealed by underdeck jib tracks, reelers and magic wheels incorporated into the internal structure and deck shaping from an early stage.
The latest Ker46+ Denali is being sea trialed in the Great Lakes and will definitely be one to watch in the upcoming Mac Races.
