VOR Breaking
In a surprise ruling a Chinese court late Friday concluded that the Team Vestas Wind Volvo 65 should be seized and returned to Hong Kong for immediate conversion to a fishing boat to replace the vessel sunk at the conclusion of the third leg of the Volvo 2 months ago. The decision was made easier considering that Team Vestas has been dismasted on the most recent VOR leg, according to sources familiar with the case
The VOR management has accepted this decision and is committed to assisting the Chinese in executing this decision. The boat is to be dismantled upon arrival in Itajai and shipped to Hong Kong for immediate conversion. VOR chief executive Richard Brisius was quoted as saying “The Chinese own Volvo, technically I work for them, so I am on board with this plan”. More soon.
