Back for the 2018 edition- Sperry Charleston Race Week is the largest keelboat regatta in North and South America. The event celebrates its 23rd year and returns to the number one city in the United States for a weekend of elite competition and fun.
Sperry Charleston Race Week is excited to announce that they will offer more launch and haul space than ever before. This year community partners, Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina, Carolina Yacht Club, Charleston Yacht Club and Hobcaw Yacht Club, will be joined by the South Carolina Ports Authority to offer Columbus Street Terminal as a site for race week competitors to store, and pull their boats in and out of the water.
In the past, SCRW has seen as many as 287 teams participating in the event.
“SCRW attracts top sailors from around the world, including America’s cup winners, Olympians, world champions, professionals as well as cruisers and novices.” Says Randy Draftz, CEO of Sperry Charleston Race Week, “We are thrilled to have the South Carolina Ports Authority supporting our event with their generous contribution of Columbus Street terminal so that we have the space to support our sailors.” SCRW was excited for the opportunity to use Columbus Street Terminal for the event, as it is not usually available for use outside of typical import/export activities. It is also very convenient – almost directly across the Cooper River from the Race Village at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, saving competitors significant time and minimizing costs.
“This is a very unique situation where we were glad to be able to help a local event that brings so much commerce to the marine industry in South Carolina,” says Jerry Matthews. More here.
