two for the road

Well, the guessing is over. At a press conference in Paris Dongfeng Race Team confirmed their final two sailors.
Kevin Escoffier, who sailed with the team in the last edition of the race, not just as a sailor but as an unofficial bosun almost acquiring a reputation as a ‘Mr Fix It’, firstly when the starboard pad eye worked loose and he was seen in the cramped space below decks making sure it lasted to the next stopover. Then with the mast track problems that plagued the team he was 3m up in the air epoxying the track back on while the boat continued sailing. Incidentally, the story goes that was the only part of the track that didn’t need refixing later.
Alongside him was Pascal Bidgorry, the only person to have skippered a sailing boat to more than 900 miles in a day. Anyone who can route a boat through the right weather systems to achieve that is bound to be valuable on board. He and Charles have a relationship dating back many years, racing against each other in the Solitaire du Figaro and asl with roles reversed when Charles was navigator to Pascal as skipper.
These two French sailors, both experienced at the short handed game join the team members already announced.
With a total of over 20 circumnavigations between them this team should certainly know their way around the planet.
