In December the federal government will announce its decision on the proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline and tanker project, and if you follow the news you know the decision seems to be leaning towards approval.
If approved this pipeline will mean an additional 400 tankers carrying toxic bitumen through the Strait, past these beautiful beaches and through an area where already 125 species are at risk including the endangered orcas. Remember that even without a spill, in Kinder Morgan’s own words:
“The impact on the southern resident killer whales will be high magnitude, high probability and significant.” More here.
