So my Melges 32 Anarchy won first in class and first overall in the poorly attended 60 mile San Diego to Ensenada race this weekend. Great to get the win and it is because of course the boat is a rocket off the wind, but most importantly the guys and gals who sail with me bust their asses and it is not only highly appreciated by me, but it is what makes the difference in races like this.
When I say poorly attended, I’m not kidding. 36 boats entered this year, down from a high of 160 boats. There are a number of reasons for this, but most of the blame goes to the host yacht club, Southwestern Yacht Club. I got a chance to speak with a couple of the race officials, and I offered some fairly direct solutions. They seemed to be well received, but we shall see what the actual official response is. I even offered to take over running the race. stay tuned. – the ed. Photo thanks to Mary Hardy.
