A bit late with this, but…
Thomas Coville, skipper of the trimaran Sodebo Ultim ‘, set a new record distance sailing solo 714 miles in 24 hours * at an incredible average speed of 29.75 knots. Thomas becomes at the same time the first skipper to cross the 700 miles solo!
With Sodebo Ultim ‘, it beats the previous record achieved 26 January 2014 by Armel Le Cléac’h who had traveled 682 miles (1263 km) in 24 hours on Banque Populaire VII.
This is the third time that the skipper of Sodebo wins this absolute record. His two previous records were set in 2008 aboard the Maxi Trimaran Sodeb’O (102 feet) during his record attempt around the world solo: 619.3 miles on 5-6 January 2008, and 628miles on 31 January 2008. On his new trimaran category Ultimate, it improves its previous records of nearly 100 miles.
After a 2nd place on The Transat on May 11, Thomas Coville has taken advantage of his return from New York to La Trinité sur Mer, its home port, to meet this challenge. * subject to World Record Sailing Speed Council confirmation.
