And the East won! Well let’s just say all of Shanghai kicked our asses in many, many ways, some of which we actually liked. but that’s a whole ‘nother story…). Team Sailing Anarchy had it’s moments on the race course (and other areas, or so I am told), but ultimately settled for 5th overall at the FarEast International 23R Regatta. 28 teams from around the world sailed 10 races in fabulous sailing conditions at the Shanghai Sailing Club at Lake Dishui. In the hunt to win a 23r right up to the end, a particularly bad start – thanks barging Chinese boat – ruined our chances at a podium.
The FarEast 23R’s were really cool little boats – good looking, reasonably quick, fun to sail and a total bargain. If I sailed full time at Lake Dishui, I’d buy one in a second. In fact, thanks to US FarEast distributor Matt Wake, it looks like Team Sailing Anarchy may be chartering a 23R for Key West. You can too. More on that soon.
My boys – Damian Craig, Taylor Schlub, Andrew La Plant and I had an unbelievably great time in Shanghai, and some of it was actually sailing! Some wasn’t. I’ll have a more complete report, including one of the most bizarre redress protests ever a bit later in the week. – the ed.
