“Cruising” can be fun! Doing it in Class 40 Talanta at a speed of 18-23 knots at the 2015 ARC. South of the Canary Islands three days before rudder one broke. Removed it and continued on starbord tack for 3,5 days. Stopped, switched rudder at sea, gibed and continued. We were heading for the podium when rudder number two broke 150 NM from the finish in St Lucia. Managed to repair parts of it and stumbled in under jib with half a rudder left of two. “Cruising” is tough…
