leech 650

We love to feature boats we don’t know much about. Got something new to share? Well then send it in, yo.

The Australian Sport Boat Winter Nationals were held at Mooloolaba over the weekend. Skipper Graham Sherring and crew had an impressive win in their Leech 650, Stay Tuned. Check out the Australian Sport Boat Association face book page for full results, photos and videos. Stayed Tuned was designed by Dan Leech of Christchurch, New Zealand and built by owner / skipper Graham Sherring from Southport, Australia.

The boat can be sailed with either 3-4 crew, with an ideal crew weight of 300 – 320 kg. It takes approximately 20mins for 2 crew to rig and have ready for racing. The boat has a powerful sail plan with a modest draft and light displacement. Stay Tuned has Evolution Queensland Sails and they used Dimension/Polyant GPL Lt Skin for the upwind gear and Contender Sail Cloths Dynakote for the Spinnakers.

The construction system is kit set with all parts computer cut. Most of the Australian boats utilised the pre laminated carbon / foam composite panels supplied from ATL composites. This kitset build system makes for a very fast, easy and accurate build, which means you don’t need to be a boat builder to build one of these boats.
