Does anyone else find it amazing that only 24 people died during one of the nastiest cyclone landfalls ever on one of the world’s poorest islands?  We’re all damned lucky to live in a time when most natural disasters are well known ahead of time, and everyone on the planet owes a debt to the multitudes of engineers and scientists who’ve made modern forecasting and observation possible.
