Want to race a Southern California classic venue? Want to party as only So Cal can? Honor Memorial Day by exercising your right to do both! In its 33rd year, the Memorial Day weekend classic Around Catalina Race offers a great race followed by a fun party AND two course options: the original 75 mile racer’s course around the island and the new cruiser’s fleet 34 mile course direct to Dana Point. If this year’s N2E weather is an indication, it could be a year for records to be set. Co-hosted by Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club and Dana Point Yacht Club, please see details at Aroundcatalina.dpyc.org. The May 24 racing will be energetic and its fun on-shore: Friday May 23 party at CBYC, Saturday May 24 and Sunday May 25 party at DPYC.
Armloads of take home trophies are handed out on Sunday including a case of rum for the 1st J/Boat in the Around the Island fleet. Photo boat will be at the start as well as on station at Catalina’s West End to capture your very best spinnaker set of the year. PHRF, ORR, IRC and Multihulls encouraged. Get tuned up for PacCup! Slips, sideties, dry storage and hoists are available at CBYC and DPYC.
