On Sunday morning, October 28, the Bounty was about 200 nautical miles north of the center of the hurricane. The crew was struggling to keep the vessel steady in the onslaught of winds and seas, which were primarily out of the east and northeast. The engineer testified that he suffered another bad fall that morning. The crew stated that by midday, the Bounty was experiencing 30-foot seas and 90-knot winds.
