We think Ryan Breymaier is a star waiting to happen. Deeply talented, hugely passionate, Ryan is committed to doing everything we can to reach his dream of the Vendee Clobe. Here is a bit about the young man…
Ryan discovered his passion and natural talent for sailing later than most, aged 18 upon arriving at St Mary’s college, MD. He saw an ad for the big boat sailing program on the side of a soda machine in freshers week and thanks to the college boat donation program his first experience was onboard a Whitbread 80 called The Card. Hooked, he learned to sail and his trade of rigging simultaneously, spending all his evenings, weekend and holidays at the waterfront.
On leaving college he worked as a rigger as he developed his sailing career gaining experience over the next 10 years with some of the world’s leading ocean racing programs.
In 2007 he moved to France to pursue his career with the short-handed ocean racing, a little known discipline in the USA but an already mature sport in Europe with a huge fan base. Attracted by the technicality of the Open 60 boats and the desire to learn more about the class, he used his trade as rigger to join an established French team run by skipper Roland Jourdain and prepare his boat for the Vendée Globe 2008. In 2010 Ryan took the same boat and with spanish sponsor, Neutrogena, he competed in the Barcelona World Race. His first major event on the IMOCA world championship, he made a very positive mark earning trophies for both his video and photo content as well as their 5th place.
Ryan’s objective is to continue with a US sponsor and enter the IMOCA Ocean Masters World Championship culminating in the most challenging sailing race in the world, the Vendee Globe.
