Those of you lucky enough to have watched Channel 7’s exciting coverage of the Rolex Sydney-Hobart Race live were treated to one of the closest starts in the race’s illustrious history, but thanks to the network’s bizarre internal policies, the actual recorded video doesn’t seem to exist anywhere in the world. We’re told they plan to make a link available some time next year (when no one gives a crap anymore). That’s not really good enough, but what are you gonna do?
It turns out that there’s plenty to do in this day and age, and we got a very secretive e-mail earlier today with the links to the entire video posted to a Dailymotion account. We make no comments on the ethics of piracy or copyright infringement, but in our opinion, Channel 7 brought this one on themselves with a nonsensical delay to posting the video, and total obliviousness of the way the internet really works.
So…props to 7 for some pretty awesome work on one of the world’s most beautiful ocean race sendoffs, and props to Dailymotion user ‘solosailor1’ for doing what must have been days worth of work to get this thing online. And now that it’s out there, as we all know, there’s no putting it back in the bottle, though as far as we know, we’re the world’s first site to get it up.
As Jeff Goldblum told us so famously in Jurassic Park, Life Finds A Way.
