build kids

Rocking The Boat is perhaps our favorite community organization.  How can you go wrong with a slogan like “Kids don’t just build boats, boats build kids.”  Bored with your own boatbuilding/rigging/marketing/sailing industry job and looking to make a difference in the lives of thousands of n0n-yacht club kids?  Here’s the job for you, starting date: Sept. 1.  Thread is here if you have questions.

The Youth Development Boatbuilding Program Director manages Rocking the Boat’s after school and summer Boatbuilding Program. This job is first and foremost one of an experiential educator, not a craftsperson, and successful applicants will be able to demonstrate their commitment to alternative forms of education. The Program Director works daily with a group of 10 to 20 high school aged students, introducing them to a range of wooden boatbuilding skills, and building a small wooden boat over the course of each semester. The Program Director supervises a staff of up to four 18-22 year old Program Assistants, all graduates of Rocking the Boat’s Programs. The Boatbuilding Program Director works collaboratively with the Youth Development and Alumni Social Workers, the Youth Development On-Water Program Director, and the Job Skills Boatbuilding Program Director to help empower young people as they move through high school and transition into their adult lives. The position is also responsible for working with the Boatbuilding Job Skills Program Director to manage the daily operation of the boatbuilding shop, including sourcing lumber and fixing and replacing tools.  Read On:
