From the S/C 50 Deception as they try not to get left behind by class leading sister ship Horizon…
We found the breeze!!! 20 knots and we have our A3 spinnaker up and we’re flying towards our entry in the slotcars section of the race. The last weather files we downloaded are looking promising, but as usual, we have 2x the wind they say we should.
This morning’s position report was a bit of a letdown for us. we slid from 3rd to 7th and I guess those hippies on Horizon took us to task and gave us a beating a catholic nun would approve of. That’s OK though, there are still a lot of miles left in this race and if nothing else, we are good at comebacks. We’re certainly not taking it lying down and we’ve hit a top speed of 16 knots and surfing down a few waves already. Push, push, push… Now if only they get skunked.
With the kite up, life on the good ship Deception is improving. We got through the vomit portion of this race in only one evening and personal hygiene is on the upswing. Last night was as dark as they come, but this afternoon, the sun came out and has been with us since. It’s warmer too and (…. Wipeout…) we’re starting to take our layers off. Hopefully we’ll get a moon this evening and the breeze will persist. Signing off.. I got dinner to warm up.
