Big Pimpin’
The third set of Box 8.5 hulls finally got wet late June. We had the privilege of sailing both Aus 100 and Aus 103 together in Brisbane last weekend. Although the weather was predictably crap the conditions for sailing the cats was perfect, 2-22kts of wind, some wave action and some flat water. The evolution of the boats to this point has been a little painstaking at times, ditching the initial build method put us back some time but the end result has been well worth the wait. Check the video!
The boats are now where we want them to be, the platform is stiff, the yachts are manageable and fun in anything from 5-20kts (still hanging to sail in more puff, we haven’t even reefed yet) and we have had sailors from every age bracket come sailing.
The point I guess is we have achieved what we set out to, a performance cat that is relatively cheap, easily trail-able, has quick pack up and set up and can be sailed and enjoyed but almost anyone!
The boats are in Brisbane for the next month before moving towards the warm weather for Airlie Beach Race Week and the multi nationals. Get in touch with us if your in the area and would like a test sail or if you want any more information, check the website.
Massive thanks must go to D. Turton and Wayne, North Sails Aus, Harken Australia, NZRigging, C-Tech, SailRacing Aus, Yancy Tramps and the team at Cure Comp. See you on the water.
