The body of longtime Massachusetts racer Mark Marsella was found on a Block Island beach on Saturday morning; police said the 51 year-old computer consultant and owner of the Carrera ICE 3 died of drowning after falling off his boat, which was moored at B.I.’s Salt Pond, according to reports. His family checked in with the community:
I wanted to pass on some more information on the sailor who passed away this past weekend at Block Island. His name was Mark Marsella, and he was my brother in law. A very talented sailor and a very well liked guy, he actually got me into racing sailboats many years ago. Mark owned and succussfully raced a Carrera 290 named ICE3, winning class at BIRW in 2000; something he was very proud of. He recently sailed on a Evelyn 32 named Scorpion.
Mark was supposed to be racing next week at BIRW, and I know how much he was looking forward to it. He will be there in spirit. Mark will be missed by all who knew him.
For those who wish to remember him formally:
