Being There

around the world in 78 days, 2 hours, and 16 minutes!

UPDATE: 3 hrs, 17 mins and 12 seconds later in comes Armel Le Cléac’h on Banque Populaire, the closest finish in Vendee history!

1993, Bruno Peyron recorded the first sub-80 day circumnavigation aboard the 86′ catamaran Explorer.  This morning, Francois Gabart crossed the finish line of the Vendee Globe in just 78 days, 2 hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds after he started in a 60′ monohull.  It’s amazing stuff, and you can watch it all happen live right here  right now.  We recommend following the Vendee Globe thread for up-to-the minute ETAs for the fleet. Good pic from Christophe Launay here.
