Andrew York did 24.7 knots in the first outing for his VX One in August when he took her out on Sydney Harbour in 35 knots.
He hatched a plan to sail from Sydney to Pittwater, 13 nautical miles up the coast. His partner Julie would tow his trailer up to a boat ramp just inside Barrenjoey. Initially a rubber duck was to accompany him on the trip but the owner could not get his logistics sorted.
While many of his friends were torn between doing the trip and work, in all cases work won out. The day before the trip Yorky contacted Josh McKnight the current Moth World Champion. Josh had just finished his Uni exams and was keen to do it.
They left the dock in Rushcutters Bay before 7am for a rendezvous with Andrea Francolini for a photo opportunity on the Sound, between Sydney Heads. The boat was rigged with three GoPros, one on the top of the mast, one on the bulkhead facing aft & one on a custom mount facing forward. The seas offshore were up to 10 feet high and the breeze was up to 25 knots. They had done 20 knots sailing down the Harbour but the two GPSs onboard saw a bit too much water offshore so no maximum speed was recorded.
