In a year that’s seen poor seamanship lead to numerous deaths and incredible tragedy all over US sailing, the highest-profile example yet has resulted in this horrific scene: It’s the HMS Bounty as seen USCG rescuer Kuklewski early this morning.

The body of former Miss Teen Alaska and crewmember Claudene Christian was recovered nearby a few hours ago, while Robin Walbridge, the Bounty’s Captain, remains missing.  If unrecovered, his decision to set sail into the biggest tropical storm ever recorded may never be explained. Like the entire tall ship community, Barque Picton Castle skipper Dan Moreland is shocked, but square-rig insiders are saying that this is just the latest instance of dismal levels of seamanship on many boats in the traditional vessel fleet.

Talk about it here.
