did you say kiting isn’t real sailing???

did you say kiting isn’t real sailing???

Try telling that to Rob Douglass, pictured above…

The world’s fastest kiters/sailors are pushing the speed envelope at the 2012 NASSCI (North American Speed Sailing Championship Invitational on Martha’s Vineyard. A $30,000 purse sits on the table until the 31st. The 12 Best "speed freaks" as we affectionately call them, have been on the Vineyard since the 15th of October, including one woman and reaching speeds of 42knots! The time of the year is perfect for the breeze and the location of Martha’s Vineyard is an excellent venue to host the site, because it’s an island. Any direction of wind works here. These speed sailors are screaming along in only 3 inches of very flat water and they kite for about 30 miles in a non-stop loop, trying to improve their averages and best numbers.

Kiters from the USA, UK, France: Robbie Douglas, Damien LeRoy, Jamie Douglas, Morgan Douglas, Brock Callen, Bill Lynch, Alex Aguera, Christophe Prin Guenon, Marie Desandre Navarre, Dave Willimas, Sylvain Hoceini, and Alex Caizergues.
