the great cup
It didn’t take long for Aussie Anarchist GiddyUp to guess our last What Is It?, and for his trouble he nabbed a special edition Zhik shirt and hat from the launch of the brand new GC-32 foiling catamaran in the pic. This latest “Super 30” to hit the market is extremely cool and differs quite a bit from the other offerings, and here’s a little from longtime SA’er “Macca”, who’s part of the team running the project:
“We spent a great deal of time designing a boat that’s incredibly quick and a breeze to handle, and we spent just as much time making sure the GC-32 is going to be a real option for both self-supporting owners and more sponsorship-oriented teams. Keeping running costs contained was a priority, and thanks to some innovative features and a very light weight makes towing, rigging, and launching headache-free. These features allow the GC-32 to be a sustainable solution, and should let us all enjoy the sailing and racing without the huge logistical expenses and drama associated with other boats.
“Now, after a year of hard work, we’ve got orders before we launch the first boats next month, and right out of the box, they can go racing. A key part of the project from the beginning was the organization of a regatta series [“The Great Cup” –ed] that will be a ‘must-sail’ event for anyone with ‘go-fast’ in their blood, and the 2013 event has five great regattas on the venue list. Plus a winter circuit in the planning for the middle east (Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman on the possible list) allowing an extended season, and there’s interest building already for similar setups in the US and Australia.”
Clean’s heading to Dubai to sail the first boat next month, so stay tuned for a full review right here on the front page. To learn more about the GC-32 project, check their website , their Facebook Page or e-mail Macca.
