Another of the worst kind of hat tricks hit the news this weekend at one of our favorite haunts, Newport Shipyard, when three female superyacht crews drove their car into the travelift basin in the wee hours of Friday morning. The car sank and flipped over, and it wasn’t found until a delivery driver spotted it around 6:30 AM. We’re told Jennifer Waay, Louise Owens, and Femmetje Staring may have crashed more than 7 hours before they were found – before midnight, in other words, and we’re told visibility (thanks to a thick fog) was around 100 feet on the waterfront at the time. Our condolences go out to these girls’ families, who are apparently sailors as well. Bad times.
Photo of the retrieval thanks to Cara Kenefick from the Newport Patch.
