It’s hard to think of Manhattan as just a 2 mile wide island, but on September 11, 2001, that’s exactly what it was, and for hundreds of thousands on the South end looking to get the hell out of what seemed like the end of the world, it was a prison.  We somehow missed this video that aired last year on the tenth anniversary of America’s defining moment of the new millennium, but we encourage you to check out this beautiful, poignant story of the barely known “boatlift”, where thousands of normal people took to their boats to evacuate nearly a half million people from the shores of New York City.  Narrated by Tom Hanks and produced by Eye Pop Productions.
