The Olympics has certainly overshadowed England’s other big event of the summer, and perhaps the biggest party in yachting period. We speak of course of the just-started Cowes Week, although from the lack of the usual PR touting the big numbers and the conflict with the five-ringed circus, we’re guessing numbers are well down this year. It doesn’t help matters that the big hospitality provider Mainsail went bankrupt a few weeks back, but it’s still THE place to be on the English Channel in August, and somewhere north of 7000 sailors agree. If you feel like keeping up with the results, you can use their annoying results page here.
But we lecherous dogs here at Sailing Anarchy are mostly interested in a new ‘green’ seen on the race course. They’re not Heineken girls and they’re not Irish girls celebrating St. Paddy’s day; they are the Vondeling girls, and in Afrikaans, the ‘V’ does indeed, and appropriately, sound like an ‘F’. And if you like ‘em as much as we do, check out the South African winery they are pimping.
