Australia was the undisputed champion of Olympic sailing this month with 3 golds and a silver; with Nathan Outteridge/Iain Jenson in the 49er and Tom Slingsby in the Laser absolutely crushing their competition so hard that they won with races to spare.  With all the forum debate about just what went wrong with the US effort, it’s interesting to see what went so right with the Aussies, and Pam and Doug’s “Improper Course” blog has a nice piece of insight with Aussie coach Bret Bayer (who’s coached both Slingsby and Outerridge during their career) that’s worth a read.  Meanwhile, the Government-funded New South Wales Institute of Sport is poised to scrap its sailing program from next year – and with 7 of 8 Aussie sailing medalists from NSW, that’s some odd timing…
