With Anna Tunnicliffe’s 1-3 loss to Finland in the Elliott 6m today and elimination from any chance of medaling, what we have been saying here has now come true: The US Olympic Sailing team did not win one single medal in one single class. Nothing, nil, nix, nada, null, goose egg, naught, zero, zilch, zip, zippo. Shall we continue?
All the hype, the "go USA"cheerleading, the "we’ve got a strong team" hollow promises, all of it turned into a hard cold pile of rubble. The worst sailing performance by the USA Olympic Sailing in history has just been delivered and what will be the fallout? We suspect not much, as the US Sailing machine must be fed and the best way to do that is not to change anything. We’ll have more later, but in the meantime, hang your head in shame, US Sailing – you got your asses kicked as completely as possible. Nadir indeed.
