Congrats to Brit Alex Thomson, who absolutely smashed Bernard Stamm’s ten-year old solo mono transat record today on the Open 60 Hugo Boss, cutting more than a day off the record for the 2800 NM trip to just under 9 days. This ain’t a fly-by-night record, either, and plenty have tried to break the Swiss record over the past decade. What’s more, AT needed to get to Europe for the Olympics and to get things in place for the Vendee, so he didn’t have the luxury of the ‘perfect’ weather window. A great result for a big Anarchy fan, and hopefully a sign that Alex is finally ready for a top result in November’s Vendee Globe. Christophe Launay photo, with a beautiful gallery here.
