We promised a big improvement in our production of the On-The-Water Anarchy Special Report from the 104th CYC Race To Mackinac, but we didn’t know we’d be able to improve the commentary by about 1000 per cent as well. Thanks though to an injury on Mackinac Island and the cooperation of the CYC and our coverage’s presenting advertiser J/Boats, we’ve got a secret guest on camera… a superstar pro offshore and inshore racer, a Volvo and Maxi alumnus; a Melges and Moth and Mumm vet; and a funny bastard to boot. So tune in right here Saturday at 1000 CDT for every Class start in the race and the identity of our mystery guest (that’s 20-odd classes over 3 hours) and an hour or so of chasing the fleet, and if you miss it, check the CYC Race to Mackinac Facebook page or look on Twitter for hashtag #CYCRTM and you’ll find it fast. And if you missed the Skippers Meeting or Chris Bedford’s weather briefing, just come on over here and check it out.
The forecast is fairly benign for most of the race; light air downwind with a slow build until Sunday, when a cold front sweeps across from the West with the usual big left shift. That means some upwind work as the fleet heads to the top of the lake, though another big shift frees it up for the boats behind later. A true all-rounder’s race, and we wish the thousand plus Anarchists in the fleet the best of luck and a safe race.
