Malcesine is one of the mellower ports on the world’s most awesome sailing lake, but not on this day, when 30 knots from the North made mincemeat of some and men of others. Renato Valivero with our old friend Chicco Fonda blew a rig up in the big breeze first race, but stormed back to win the final race of the day with a new mast. It wouldn’t be enough for the event win (which went to Alessio Marinelli with Branko Brcin as tactico), but Valivero’s perseverance allowed his ‘Turnover” to hold the overall Audi Sailing Series lead going into September’s event in Viareggio. Results are here.

Meanwhile, Lake Garda gets taken over by the Melges 24 starting next week, with their Worlds at the end of the month.

SA’er ‘Zerogradinord’ did a great job with this video – definitely the sexiest Melges 20 action ever to hit the small screen – while there are big galleries of the picturesque Lago Di Garda here, here, and here.
