SA’s resident race and superyacht rigging pro Todd Cooper of RSB Rigging hand-built two of these monster Dyneema headsail strops, pre-loading the SK75 fibers with nine tons of pull to get all the stretch out.  He sent one of the identical pair of staysail head strops from the 66 meter superyacht “Aglaia” to Hampidjan’s to destroy on their monster 320-ton hydraulic bench for testing.  “The strop broke at 218 tons – 22 tons more than our expected break load – and we were surprised to see it stretched just one inch before breaking, showing that SK75 is just as good as SK90 for this application,” Todd said.

RSB does a great job sharing rigging tidbits that appeal to sailors’ technogeek side – check out their Facebook page for the latest in high tech, high load rigging shorts.
