fun, not won
Our little Beneteau Smile And Wave didn’t have a great race today on the 30 NM ‘Round The Island’ course for Day 1 of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. That’ll happen when you lose a lifeline and have to drag your crew back in on the boat on the first beat…still, it is just about the prettiest place to race on Earth, and 202 boats tacking their way through Marigot Bay is just one of those special moments in sailboat racing. We took a sixth, with J/120 El Ocaso taking the bullet. In the big boats, the Detroit-based Equation (ex-Rosebud) beat the old Telefonica Black on corrected time by just 16 seconds – down to the wire indeed.
Today is one windward/leeward and then a short passage race to the beach party in Marigot, and we hope to represent – if we’re going to beat the Blue J boat, we’ll need to be near perfect from here on out. Friday’s video isn’t up yet, but here’s some sweet footage from Thursday’s Gill Commodore Cup. Enjoy.
