Our club lost a very valued friend yesterday – Marie Colvin, Sunday Times War Correspondent – who was killed last night in Syria.
From dinghy sailing on the Thames on a lazy Sunday afternoon to big boat sailing getting caught in that storm in the Middle Sea Race of 2004 in a Volvo 60, and then the Fastnet Race of 2005 (…..more like a Slownet) both of which she wrote up in her newspaper, she relished every aspect of the sport, and made for a really fun, feisty and of course fearless crew member that you knew you could always count on. She had just purchased her own boat – ‘Guinness’ – in order to do a lot more sailing on the river here in Hammersmith.
We loved you, Marie!
