This sad winter wonder photo is of Falcon, a Chinook 34 that spent it’s last days frozen in ice in north of Bradford Beach in Milwaukee. We were out sailing the day this boat ran aground north of Bradford Beach…the guy had spent a year restoring the boat and on his first outing in late October ran afoul of the sand bars, well known on the north point of Milwaukee Bay…
I radioed in that it appeared a vessel was in distress….storms in the coming days pushed the boat further up on shore and as a result it became a fixture until salvers could use the ice to walk out and cut it up…My shutterbug friend was fascinated with it and took pictures of the dying boat through out the late fall and winter…a sad end to tragic story….one mans dream ended for not checking charts before he ventured out. – Thanks to Anarchist Bradley.
